Zhuxian Town is located in Xiangfu District, Kaifeng City, Henan Province. It is regarded as one of China’s four ancient towns, along with Foshan in Guangdong, Jingdezhen in Jiangxi, and Hankou in Hubei.

Zhuxian Town has a long history. During the Northern Song Dynasty, it was already an important gateway and commercial center near the capital. In the Ming and Qing dynasties, with the prosperity of the Jialu River water transport, it became a key hub for land and water transportation, trade, and handicraft industry.
The most representative cultural symbol of Zhuxian Town is its woodblock New Year paintings. As one of China’s oldest New Year painting traditions, Zhuxian woodblock paintings often feature door gods, military figures, folk stories, and auspicious patterns, with bold lines, bright colors, and strong local folk character.

Zhuxian Town is also connected to the history of Yue Fei’s resistance against the Jin Dynasty. Although major battles took place at Yancheng and Yingchang, Zhuxian Town, as an important location near Kaifeng, has preserved related historical memories and legends.
Today, Zhuxian Town still retains an ancient town layout, old streets, and a traditional commercial atmosphere. Visitors can explore woodblock painting museums, Ming and Qing style streets, and the Yue Fei Temple to understand the historical background of this central Chinese town.
