A National Geographical Indication product from Wenxian, Jiaozuo, Henan. It is the top of the “Four Huai Medicines” and also called Huai Yam.

History: About 3,000 years of cultivation; listed as a superior herb in Shennong Bencao Jing.
Origin: Grown on the alluvial plain of the Yellow and Qin Rivers, in special clay-loam soil (Lu soil). Located at 34°N, with a mild climate and large day–night temperature difference.
Appearance: 1–2 cm in diameter, long and straight; skin brown with rusty spots; firm, starchy flesh; white cross-section, little slime.
Taste: Sweet, dense, powdery, holds shape when cooked; slight pleasant numbing aroma.

Nutrition: Rich in polysaccharides, mucin, saponins, amino acids. Known as “Huai Ginseng”, it benefits the spleen, stomach, lungs and kidneys.
